Two future presidents

Explaining Biden’s incoherence on Iraq
Victor Davis Hanson makes a brilliant explanation on Biden’s (and Obama’s) numerous contradictory positions on Iraq over the years, which he also chronicles.
If one were to factor in four outside variables — a) proximity of presidential elections; b) current polls regarding Iraq; c) current polls regarding George Bush’s popularity; d) current level of violence in Iraq — one could pretty much have predicted all of Biden’s seemingly incoherent positions and many of Obama’s.
That is, they are not illogical, but simply shadow the above four considerations at any given time.
E.g., Bush polling well, election way off, majority support for the war, progress in Iraq = bipartisan, statesmanlike support for an ongoing American war in Iraq.
But Bush not polling well, presidential or congressional elections coming up, majority of Americans polling against the war, deadlock in Iraq = shrill, partisan attack on ongoing American war in Iraq.
We expect this from most of our politicians on most issues. But in times of war, when thousands of Americans are executing a policy abroad at great risk to their lives, it is a dangerous thing to predicate support almost entirely on politics.
It’s not about national security. It’s not about the lives of those they send overseas. It’s about power.

How far we have fallen
From the days when the president didn’t go overseas to apologize to foreign countries… or bow to kings… a president who didn’t refuse to honor the flag during the National Anthem… back when chanting “USA, USA, USA” didn’t label you a right-wing extremist.

Obama’s Approval Index and the POTUS golfing double standard
According to Rasmussen Reports, Obama’s approval rating has been steadily dropping since taking office in January.
Over the last three days, Obama has hit an all-time low of those who “strongly approve” of him – 32%, and tied the all-time high of those who “strongly disapprove” – 34%. Likely culprits are Obama’s abhorrent handling of the situation in Iran and his upcoming Socialist healthcare system that seems eminent.
On a side note, Amanda Carpenter points out at the Washington Times‘ “Hot Button” blog that public opinion drove George W. Bush to stop golfing in 2003. With troops in harm’s way in Iraq, it apparently sent the wrong message for the Commander-in-Chief to be playing golf. Fast forward to 2009 with troops engaged in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other parts of the world, Barack Obama has enjoyed a free pass. Carpenter notes that Obama has been hit the links a total of eight times since becoming president.
While I don’t necessarily see a problem with the leader of the free world de-stressing from time to time, I do find fault with the double standard of a supposed free press.

R.I.P. Impeachment
The House of Representatives voted yesterday to send President Bush’s Impeachment to committee by a vote of 251-166. It joins Vice President Cheney’s impeachment that has already been in committee for months.
This should be a slap in the face to Democrat voters. For years, there has been a steady stream of impeachment nonsense coming from power-starved politicians wanting to gain control of Congress. The voters should feel dirty and used, since impeachment has only been political grandstanding; a way to show the far left supporters that “at least we tried, but the Republicans have somehow foiled us again.” (more…)
