A U.S. Navy McDonnell F4H-1 Phantom II of Fighter Squadron 74 (VF-74). The “Be-Devilers” transitioned from the F4D Skyray to Phantoms on 8 July 1961, becoming the first squadron to deploy Phantoms in the U.S. Navy.

A sounder of Iron Pigs

A formation of F-4B Phantom IIs of Fighter Squadron 14 (VF-14). This squadron flew almost 1,000 combat missions over Vietnam in 1966 from the deck of USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42) and traces its roots to a Pacific Fleet air detachment based in San Diego in 1919.
