23-year FDNY veteran, serving with Engine 95, Ladder 2, Rescue 1‚ the FDNY Terrorist Task Force… In 1986 Bucca fell five stories while attempting to rescue another firefighter, earning the nickname “The Flying Fireman,” returned to full duty one year later… Promoted to Fire Marshal in 1995… Army career spans 29 years in the Army, including two years active duty with the 101st Airborne, 11th Special Forces Group, and an analyst with the Defense Intelligence Agency… Promoted to Warrant Officer in the Army Reserve just before his death… Also a licensed practical nurse… Reached the 78th floor of the South Tower along with Chief Bill Palmer before his death… Bucca’s remains identified on 23 October 2001 and he is buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, N.Y…. Son Ronald Jr. also serves with Special Forces.
